7th Istanbul Japanese Films Festival kicks off

The “Seventh Istanbul Japanese se Films Festival” start with a ceremony at the Istanbul Levent Cultural Center on Thursday.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony for the festival, the Japanese ese Vice-Consul General in Istanbul, Kenji Ashida, said that the year 2010 was celebrated in Turkey as the “Year of Japan” and that 197 related activities were held in 37 Turkish provinces.

He also said they plan to organize cultural events in 2011 as continuation of the Year of Japan.

“I thank the Turkish people as a Japanese national. Everyone in all corners of Turkey showed great interest in our activities and especially in Japanese films. Many guests attended tonight’s ceremony. We were pleased to witness such a high amount of interest in Japanese films,” Ashida said.

Following the ceremony, the film titled “Feel the Wind” was shown to cinema lovers. The Festival is being made possible by the contributions of the Japanese Consulate General in Istanbul, the Besiktas Municipality and Tiglon Communication Systems Company.

A total of 14 films will be shown as part of the Festival. The Festival will continue until March 6.
