Killing of lawmaker Raza Haider causes violence in Karachi Pakistan, 37 dead

At least 37 people have been killed in Pakistan largest city, Karachi after the assassination of a lawmaker officials said on Tuesday.

According to reports from the area, shops and vehicles have been set on fire with security services struggling to keep control of the angered groups.

Karachi, in southern Pakistan is especially important for Pakistan as it is the largest city in the country with 16 million residents and is an important hub for Pakistani investment.

The violence started after a well known provincial lawmaker, Raza Haider, was assassinated while he was praying at a mosque on Monday.

Haider’s bodyguard was also killed during the attack.

Many Pakistani’s believe that the murder of the lawmaker was politically motivated as Raza Haider was the member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, which runs the city of Karachi.

Karachi has been known for unrest with a history of bloody political, ethnic and religious violence and is also a known hide-out for al-Qaida and Taliban militants.
