Kurdish Terrorist Group PKK Kill Seven Turkish Soldiers

PKK have killed seven soldiers and wounded several others in a multi-pronged attack along the Iraqi border, state-run television said.

The  pkk terrorists attacked military units in Daglica area in the Hakkari province today, prompting the military to launch a large-scale offensive in the area, TRT television said.

About 15 soldiers were also wounded in the clashes, TRT said. Private NTV television put the number of wounded soldiers at more than 10.

A similar rebel attack that left 12 Turkish soldiers dead in the same area in October 2007 had triggered an eight-day incursion by the Turkish military into Iraq in February 2008 to strike terrorists who use bases in northern Iraq to stage hit-and-run attacks on Turkish targets.

10 terrorists killed in an operation after the attack. Turkish military operation continues

The teror group, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, is fighting for autonomy in southeast Turkey. Thirty of thousands have died since it took up arms in 1984.

The attack came amid efforts by the Turkish government to try to reconcile with the Kurdish minority through granting more cultural rights. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently announced plans to introduce elective Kurdish lessons in schools, after allowing Kurdish language broadcasts on television.
