Libya Plane crash site, footage of rescue workers

It has been reported that the plane which crashed in Libya in the early morning hours of Wednesday had British nationals and also people from other nationalities.

It has been reported that 104 people on board the plane, 93 passengers and 11 crew members were killed in the flight.

There has also been reports of an 8-year-old child of Dutch origin who has survived the crash but no further detail has been given of the condition the child is in.

According to witnesses at the airport, the plane crash while landing, but this has not been confirmed by any official body.

The Airbus 330, belonging to Afriqiyah Airways was travelling from Johannesburg to London’s Gatwick Airport, but was planned to stop in Tripoli the capital of Libya.

A spokesman for the British Foreign Office said “Libyan officials have informed us that Afriqiyah Flight 8U771 from Johannesburg crashed at Tripoli International Airport this morning.”

“We are aware of reports that there were British nationals on board the flight, but this has not been confirmed. We are urgently investigating.

“A consular team from the British Embassy are on their way to the airport. Consular staff in Tripoli are urgently seeking further details.”
