The former Fulham manager has been having a difficult time at Liverpool and the major problems most believe is in the lack of goals the Reds have scored this campaign.
After Liverpool turning around from the verge of administration, new owners New England Sports Ventures now want the Reds to go to the top of the table where they have been used to be seen.
Hodgson has now put his sight on up and coming forward Adam Szalai who has been impressive in the Bundesliga with German side Mainz.
The 22-year-old 6ft 4in forward has also played for Hungary and is seen as the perfect partner for Fernando Torres who has recently come back from injury and is beginning to his old form.
However Hodgson who steered the Cottagers to the final of the UEFA Europa league last season but lost in the final against Spanish side Atlético Madrid in extra time has his hands full with the striker after former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has also showed interest in the young Hungarian.
According to the latest reports, Inter Milan are also interested in signing Szalai who is reportedly keen on joining the Italian giants.
Szalai’s agent told Nemzeti Sport “No-one contests that Internazionale are a big club but the player is still very young, this is his first full season at Mainz and he has to progress,”
“If there was an offer then it’s likely that we would consider it. But at the moment the most important thing is that Szalai is happy to play at his present team.”
