Mascot of the 2010 world Basketball championship

fiba_van_kedisijpgThe famous cat of the Turkish city Van has been chosen as the mascot for the 2010 world Basketball championship held in Turkey.

Turgay Demirel the chairman of the Turkish Basketball federation (TBF) said “the decision to use the Van Cat as the mascot for the 2010 Basketball championship in Turkey was a result of a long lasting project by FIBA. Everyone is so far happy with the decision to use the Van cat and we hope it will bring our national team luck in the championship”.

The press and the guests at the presentation of the mascot took many photos of a live cat brought in from Van which is famous for it’s coloured eye’s.

FIBA president Bob Elphinston said “I found the cat as a historic symbol for the host country. I believe the cat will have many benefits for this tournament”
