The incident was accidentally caught on a video camera in a police officers car in Iowa, shows the force of one particular meteor lighting the sky. Witnesses say though the video does not have audio, a large sound was heard prompting many residents to leave there homes in fright.

According to the National Weather service the Meteor shower is part of a known phenomena called the Gamma Virginids as it was expected to pass between April 4 and April 21.

A spokesman from the The U.S. National Weather Service said “A fireball or very bright meteor was observed streaking across the sky. The fireball was seen over the northern sky, moving from west to east.”

“Well before it reached the horizon it broke up into smaller pieces and was lost from sight. It is unknown whether any portion of this meteorite hit the ground.”

Experts say that a chunk of materiel must have broken of and entered the Earth’s atmosphere heating it up and causing the intense bright light.
