Pakistan’s former military ruler and president Parvez Musharraf, who is currently detention over several high profile cases, may be allowed to visit his ailing mother at a hospital in Dubai.

Islamabad, May 3/Nationalturk: Pakistan’s former military ruler and president Parvez Musharraf, who is currently detention over several high profile cases, may leave the country ahead of his ’enemy’ Nawaz Sharif’s election as the premier to visit his ailing mother at a hospital in Dubai.

Sources said Musharraf’s mother has  developed a serious health problem in a Dubai hospital and doctors have termed her condition as critical.

Pakistan’s newspaper, The News quoted  highly informed sources as saying that Musharraf may be allowed to visit his ailing mother in Dubai before Nawaz Sharif’ election as premier of country in National Assembly on June 5.

“An application for the bail would be adjudicated tomorrow (Tuesday) and with that he would be moving the learned court for scrapping his name from the Exit Control List (ECL) since he has to proceed to Dubai immediately for visiting his ailing mother,” sources said.

They said his pre-arrest bail in the Nawab Akbar Bugti assassination case would be taken up by another court on Thursday next a day after assumption of the office of the Prime Minister by Nawaz Sharif. Musharraf would not be required to appear personally for the plea in the court for grant of pre-arrest bail.

Former military ruler is currently under detention

The former military ruler, who returned to Pakistan’s after four years of self-exile in March this year,  is currently in detention at his house in Shehzad Town, Islamabad, which has been declared prison by the authorities.

He was placed on exit control list (ECL) . A circular was issued to all the exit points including the airports not to let the former president leave the country.

Later, the Supreme Court also directed authorities to ensure that Musharraf does not leave the country.

The order came after a bench took up petitions seeking Musharraf’s trial on a charge of high treason for violating the Constitution.

Musharraf came to power in 1999 by deposing PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif’s previous government in a military coup.

Sharif has said action should be taken under the law against Musharraf for his actions.

It now remains to be seen whether Musharraf will be allowed to visit his ailing mother in Dubai hospital.
