“Operation Fox Hunt”: China arrests 180 corrupt officials / Breaking News

Beijing celebrates the operation as a breakthrough in the fight against corruption: 180 suspects who should have settled because of various economic crimes abroad, were arrested – with international assistance.

The Chinese authorities have arrested 180 people who reported to have fled because of economic crimes abroad. “Thanks to the cooperation and support of other countries is our breakthrough in Africa, South America, succeeded in the South Pacific and in Western Europe,” it said in a release from the Ministry of Public Security of the state news agency Xinhua quoted.

Twenty teams were sent to the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and other neighboring countries and there were 75 suspects arrested. A total of 104 people were in the course of “Operation Fox Hunt” was taken into custody, 76 more were returned to China and had found.

State and party chief Xi Jinping had launched a large-scale anti-corruption campaign shortly after he took office. The new president wants to take action against both “fly” and powerful “Tiger” – which he says corrupt officials both at lower and at the highest level. Most alleged offenders to have fled to the United States, Canada and Australia. With these countries, China has no extradition treaties concluded.
