The South African Police have said that they have officially completed the murder case of the double-amputee blade runner, Oscar Pistorius shooting and killing of his girlfriend in February this year.

Pistorius will appear in court next week to receive details of the charges on the basis according to the discovery of the investigation report presented by prosecutors.

Police said they had used forensic experts, ballistics experts, psychologists and technology experts to    investigate the February 14 death of Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot by Pistorius through a closed bathroom door at his home in Pretoria. But Pistorius has maintained that he mistook her for a burglary.

Police spokesman, Lt. Gen. Solomon Makgale told reporters in Pretoria that the investigation team is convinced that Pistorius has a charge to answer in court.

“It is expected that he will be served with an indictment and that the matter will be postponed. The prosecution, in collaboration with the defense team, will agree on a trial date,” the police statement released to newsmen said.

In a pre-trial formalities, Pistorius’s counsel stated in court that the shooting was a tragic and unfortunate mistake and that the Pistorius acted in self-defense against what he thought was an intruder in his home.

But prosecutors accused him of premeditated murder which means he deliberately shot and killed Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine Day.

Pistorius was one of the most celebrated athletes of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics in London, making the 400m semifinal and winning Paralympic gold over the same distance.

Analysts say according to South African laws, he may face a life sentence in prison or a minimum of 25 years if convicted of the charge of premeditated murder leveled against him by prosecutors.

Pistorius has been rare seen in public ever since he secured bail. He appeared in court in June which proceeding lasted for only 10 minutes and he is due back in court on 19 August.
