Over 900 militants killed by Pakistan army in North Waziristan

Pakistan military has said over 900 militants have been killed in army operation in North Waziristan tribal agency so far.

Islamabad, Sept 3/Nationalturk – Over 900 militants have been killed in Pakistan military’s operation in country’s North Waziristan tribal agency since launch of military operation on June 15 this month.

“Army operation in North Waziristan is progressing according to plan. At least 910 militants have been killed in operation so far,” Pakistan military spokesman said.

Pakistan army launched operation named Zarb-e-Azb against local and foreign terrorists in North Waziristan on June 15th this year. Pakistan army has launched ground operation and is bombarding military positions from jet fighters and helicopter gunships.

‘Terrorists cleared from major strongholds’

Pakistan military spokesman said Miranshah, Mirali, Datta Khel, Boya and Degan, which were earlier considered strongholds of militants, have been cleared of the terrorists. “An 88 km long Road, Khajuri-Mirali-Miranshah-Dattakhel and Road Ghariom-Jhallar has been cleared and operation is going on”.

He said about 27 Improvised Explosive Device (IED) manufacturing factories, one rocket and one ammunition manufacturing factory have been destroyed.

“Huge cache of arms and ammunition, communication equipment, and other logistics facilities used by militants have been destroyed, uprooting their ability to attack as a coherent force,” the spokesman said.

He said since the beginning of operation Zarb-e-Azb, 82 soldiers have been killed and 269 others injured.

More than one million people have fled the military offensive in North Waziristan and taken shelter at camps for the displaced.

After the launch of military operation in North Waziristan, the terrorist violence in the country has dropped considerably. The suicide bombings, blasts and terrorist attacks, which had become norm of the day, have been reduced to near zero.
