Pakistan military may extend the ongoing military operation in country’s North Warzirisitan tribal agency to adjoining Bajaur Agency.

Islamabad, July 15/Nationalturk – Pakistan military, which has launched military operation in country’s North Warzirisitan tribal agency, may extend the operation to adjoining Bajaur Agency to root out terrorists there.

Pakistani army officials, pleading anonymity, said after recent spate of cross-border attacks by militants on Pakistani army posts, army has decided to launch a targeted operation in Bajaur Agency to flush out the militants.

They said the tribesmen of five villages – Ghakhay, Kitkot, Naktar, Gohati and Mula Kallay – near the Pak-Afghan border have been asked to evacuate from the areas to pave way for military operation.

The residents said announcements were made through the loudspeakers of mosques asking people to move to other parts of Mamond tehsil and Khar, the headquarters of Bajaur Agency.

‘2 registration points for IDPs set up’

Officials said two registration points have been set up for vetting the displaced tribesmen. “One point has been established in the Umaray area of Mamond and another at Sadiqabad in Khar. The registration process for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) will begin from today.

The residents of villages of Nakhtar, Kitkot, Gohati and Mula Kallay have started evacuating to safer places.

The officials said Pakistan army has surrounded the target areas and set up multiple new checkpoints near the Pak-Afghan border. “The military may target terrorist hide-outs and safe havens from fighter jets as they are doing in North Warziristan and afterwards launch ground assault”.

On June 15, Pakistan army launched military operation against local and foreign militants based in country’s lawless tribal agency, North Waziristan. According to army officials, over 400 terrorists have been killed in the operation so far and many hide-outs destroyed.
