Islamabad, Jan 7/Nationalturk – Pakistan has shown keen interest in improving trade ties with Russia and country is making efforts to resolve 15-year old trade related financial disputes between the two countries.
“We are keen to resolve 15-year old trade related financial disputes with Russia. It will be a giant leap forward for removing the impasse in Pakistan- Russian trade relations,” Pakistan’s Finance minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has said.
He said this while chairing a meeting of the committee formed by Pakistan Prime Minister to resolve the long standing trade issues between Russia and Pakistan.
‘Any progress will create win-win situation’
“Any progress made in resolving these issues will create a win-win situation for both the countries. It shall remove the barriers to mutual trade, which have held the trade relations between the two countries hostage for more than one and a half decade,” Dar said.
He said they shall be the honest brokers for the settlement of financial claims existing between the Russian government and the trade community of Pakistan. “We shall facilitate the process of the resolution of bilateral issues in any way we can”.
‘It will send positive signal to Russian investors’
Pakistan’s Finance Minister said resolution of 15-year old financial disputes between the two countries would give a positive signal to the Russian investors to bring their capital to Pakistan.
“We will also be in a favourable condition to avail trade opportunities existing in the resource rich Central Asian states,” he said adding for expediting the process of resolving disputes, he has formed a sub-committee to have a meaningful dialogue with all the stakeholders.
The panel, he said, has been asked to submit its proposals within a week.
Pakistan is trying to improve its relations with Russia with whom it had not had good ties.
