In fresh air strikes by Pakistan military in country’s North and South Waziristan tribal Agency, considered hotbed of militants, over 30 militants are reported to have been killed.

Islamabad, Feb 25/Nationalturk – Pakistan military is continuing its air offensive against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and over 30 militants are reported to have been killed in fresh air strikes in country’s North and South Waziristan tribal Agency, considered hotbed of militants.

Pakistan security officials, pleading anonymity, said fighter jets and gunship helicopters bombarded hideouts of TTP militants in North and South Waziristan tribal agency on Tuesday morning.

“The surgical strikes were conducted by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jet fighters and helicopter gunships on arms and ammunition depots, bomb making factories and safe havens of TTP militants in Shawal valley, Miranshah and Dattakhel areas of North Wazirzstan and in some areas of South Wazirstan agency. The training centers where the militants were preparing suicide bombers were also bombed. Many militant hide-outs were destroyed and over 30 militants were killed,” they said.

Jet fighters now regularly pounding militant positions

Pakistani jet fighters and helicopter gunships have now been regularly pounding targets in the region after country’s government’s efforts to engage TTP militants in peace negotiations broke down this month following beheading of 23 security men by the militants and civilian and security force casualties caused in militant attacks.

The air strikes started on February 19, when at least 30 militants were killed and several others injured following bombardment of their hideouts in North Waziristan and Khyber agencies.

Almost all political groups of Pakistan barring few religious parties have been demanding an all-out military offensive against militants in North Wazirstan.

Meanwhile, North Waziristan residents have been leaving the troubled region anticipating a full-scale military offensive. They are moving to safer positions in as Bannu, Kohat and Peshawar and other parts of the province.
