Pakistan seeks Turkey’s help in rooting out extremism

With his country battling extremism, radicalisation and terrorism, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has sought help of Turkey in effectively rooting out extremism from the country.

Islamabad, Sept 17/Nationalturk – Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday sought help of Turkey in effectively wiping out menace of extremism from the country.

“Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif, who is presently on a visit to Turkey, met Turkish Interior Minister Muammer Guler and held discussions on issues related to mutual interest,” a statement released by Pakistan PM’s office said.

It quoted Nawaz as saying that Pakistan would learn from the success story of Turkey’s Police and security forces as his government had taken initiatives to deliver on all fronts.

He expressed the hope that Pakistan would implement an effective counter-terrorism strategy with the joint cooperation of Turkey. “Turkey is our trusted friend and has come out of the same crisis we face today.  We have the potential to deliver, and we will deliver.”

Pakistan is facing extremism and terrorism and country faces near daily bombings, blasts and militant attacks. In the militant attack in Pakistan tribal area on Sunday (September 15), a top army commander alongwith his associates was killed.

Turkey assures help to Pakistan

The Turkish Interior Minister assured Pakistan PM said country can provide help to Pakistan in controlling cyber crimes and tackling issue of radicalization.  “Pakistan has vast human resources and the right type of training and education would help a lot”.

Guler said extremism could not be countered and defeated through use of force only.

“Social reformation and education could help a lot in this regard.  Turkey had worked a lot with the government of Pakistan’s Punjab province and country was ready to extend cooperation and help to Pakistan in fight against extremism,” he said.
