Pakistan’s most feared terrorist group, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has appointed Mullah Fazullah alias Radi Molvi as new chief of the group after previous chief Hakeemullah Meshud was killed in US drone attack last month.

Islamabad, Nov 7/Nationalturk – Mullah Fazullah, who sent assassinators to target 13-year-old girl Malala Yousufzai in Pakistan’s Swat region last year and has been on run, has been appointed as new chief of Pakistan’s most feared terrorist group, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) caretaker leader Asmatullah Shaheen was quoted as saying by Pakistan’s news channels and wire agencies that Mullah Fazlullah was elected as new chief of the militant outfit.

He said the decision was taken at a shura (council) meeting held today.

“Following proper consultations, we chose Mullah Fazlullah as our new leader,” TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid was quoted as saying by media reports.

The Taliban Shura or council had initially agreed on Khan Syed alias Sajna as the new chief during a meeting in South Waziristan last week but later withheld the decision due to opposition from some commanders.

‘Mullah Fazlullah is also known as Radio Molvi’

Mullah Fazlullah also known as Radio Molvi led Taliban’s brutal two-year rule in Swat valley of Pakistan from 2007-2009 before a military operation regained control of the area and evicted him and his fighters out.

Known for his fiery radio broadcasts in Swat, he was also sometimes referred to as chief of the Swat Taliban. He has been on run since Pakistan military operation in Swat and Pakistan has alleged that he was hiding in Kunar province of Afghanistan.

He had send assassinators to kill 13-year-old Malala Yusufzai in Swat last year. The teenager survived despite being shot in the head by a terrorist and was taken to Britain for treatment. She was shot because of her opposition to the Taliban and her campaign to promote education among women in the Swat valley.

‘Fazlullah involved in killing of Pakistan army’s Major General’

Mullah Fazlullah is involved in the high profile killing of Major General Sanaullah Khan Niazi, General Officer Commanding Swat, in Upper Dir in an IED blast early this year.

The Swat chapter of Taliban had released a video to accept the killing of Maj General Sanaullah, and showed Fazlullah celebrating the attack’s success. In the video, he had expressed great happiness that the attack had targeted an army official.

Pakistan Taliban’s previous chief Hakeemullah Meshud was killed in a US drone attack in North Wazirstan last Friday.
