Pakistan has decided to evacuate its stranded citizens from the conflict-hit country.

Islamabad, Aug 8/Nationalturk – In view of deteriorating situation in once-stable Libya, Pakistan government has decided to evacuate its stranded citizens from the conflict-hit country.

According to Pakistani officials, about 4000-6000 Pakistanis are stranded in Libya, where the security situation is deteriorating due to fighting between rival militia groups, who fought together to oust Colonel Gaddafi and overthrow his government.

Over 200 people have been killed in last two weeks in fighting between rival militias in Libya’s two main cities – Tripoli and Benghazi.

“The security situation in Libya has deteriorated and warranted immediate action to repatriate all Pakistani nationals awaiting evacuation,” they said.

PM directs for safe, swift evacuation of Pakistanis

Officials said Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed country’s Foreign Affairs minister and others agencies to take all necessary measures for safe and swift evacuation of stranded Pakistanis from Libya.

Sharif has directed for arranging special chartered flights to evacuate stranded Pakistanis from Libya.

Officials said Pakistan’s foreign ministry has established a Crisis Management Cell (CMC) to monitor the evolving security situation in Libya and coordinate efforts to evacuate Pakistanis stranded in the country.

They said Pakistan Embassy in Tripoli is assisting stranded Pakistanis by providing them necessary documents to leave the country.

“Our embassy in Tripoli has already registered a large number of Pakistanis in Libya and referred their documents to Tunisian authorities for visa on arrival,” officials added.
