The son of Pakistan’s former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Ali Haider Gilani was kidnapped fom Pakistan’s Multan city on Thursday afternoon.

Islamabad, May 9/Nationalturk-  The son of Pakistan’s former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Ali Haider Gilani was kidnapped after an attack on Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) gathering in Multan city on Thursday.

According to Pakistan newspaper, The Express Tribune, unidentified gunmen in cars opened fire at the political gathering in Farrukh Town, Multan. Gilani’s son Ali Haider is contesting elections from the constituency.

The newspaper said Ali Haider’s personal secretary Mohammad Muhiuddin died in the firing and eight others sustained injuries. The injured have been hospitalized.

In the chaos created by the firing, the gunmen reportedly abducted former PM’s son Ali Haider Gilani.

“The target of the attack was Yousaf Raza Gilani, who was also present at the meeting. The gunmen kidnapped his son after being unable to kill the former prime minister,” police officials were quoted as saying by Express Tribune.

Ali Haider was taken in black Honda City: Police

Pakistan’s TV channel Geo TV quoted police as saying that Ali Haider Gilani was taken in a black Honda City. “The kidnappers came on motorcycles and had the car with them.”

Immediately after the kidnapping incident, police sealed all entry and exit points of the city. A massive manhunt has been launched to track down the abductors and recover Al Haider Gilani.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the abducting but there were media reports that Pakistan’s former PM Yousaf Raza Gilani had informed authorities and Pakistan government of receiving death and kidnapping threats from dreaded militant outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

As the news spread that former PM’s son has been abducted, Gilani’s and PPP supporters came out on roads in Multan city and staged demonstrations.
