Pakistan’s busiest Karachi Airport which was stormed by heavily armed militants on Sunday evening, was again attacked by group of militants on Tuesday and all flights from the airport have been suspended.

Islamabad, June 10/Nationalturk – In a major embarrassment for Pakistan’s security and intelligence agencies, country’s Karachi Airport which was stormed by heavily armed militants on Sunday evening, was again attacked by group of militants on Tuesday. Authorities have suspended all flights from the airport.

“An academy of Airport Security Force (ASF) personnel near Pakistan’s Karachi airport was attacked by a group of 4-7 militants again today afternoon,” a police official said.

He said ASF personnel manning the academy are exchanging heavy fire with the militants.

Pakistan army commandos, paramilitary Rangers and ambulances were rushing to the scene of the attack to take on the militants. The aerial surveillance of the area is also being conducted.

Roads leading to the airport have been cordoned. Sources said four suspected persons have been detained by security personnel and their questioning is going to ascertain whether they had any links with the attackers.

4-7 attackers involved in fresh attack

A security official said initial reports suggest that the number of attackers could be between four and seven.

A Twitter account allegedly operated by Omar Khorasani of dreaded militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Mohmand faction tweeted on Tuesday that the group has carried out this second attack.

Meanwhile, officials said all flights operating from the airport, busiest in Pakistan, have been suspended and flights coming to airport from different directions are being diverted to other airports in the country.

The fresh militant attack comes after 24 hours following the storming of airport by heavily armed group of militants. At least 29 people including 10 attackers were killed in the attack and the flights resumed from the Airport last evening after clearance from the security agencies.

The resurfacing of militants near the airport and fresh attack by them has led to major embarrassment for security and intelligence agencies. The question marks are being raised over their efficacies.
