Planet new Earth found

A new Earth found? NASA finds planet outside our solar system in just about right for life spot.

Washington / NationalTurk – The new found planet will be called Kepler 22-b and is circling a star similar to our Sun about 600 light years away. The planet, eerily similar to Earth is about twice the size of Earth, with a temperature of around 22C. The planet’s year of 290 days is close to Earth’s one complete circle around the sun.

That temperature is just right for liquid water – something that’s important to support life. There is a small hitch since Kepler 22-b is a bit too big.

Planet new Earth found

The Terra Novan planet is smack in the middle of what astronomers call the Goldilocks zone, that hard to find place that’s not too hot, not too cold, where water, which is essential for life, doesn’t freeze or boil. And it has a shopping mall-like surface temperature of near 72 degrees, 22 C scientists say.

Kepler Telescope did fine work

The planet’s confirmation was announced Monday by NASA along with other discoveries by its Kepler telescope, which was launched on a planet-hunting mission in 2009.
