In the trial of the accused for murder Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius closing arguments have begun. Before the court in Pretoria laid prosecutor Gerrie Nel at the beginning of his version of the fatal shooting of Pistorius’ girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp dar.

Nell wants to convince the court that the 27-year-old his girlfriend deliberately shot on the night of Valentine’s Day in 2013 in a dispute through a closed bathroom door. Pistorius insists, however, that it was a tragic accident: he had kept his girlfriend for a burglar.

36 witness has consulted to nearly 40 days of the hearing, the court in Pretoria, none of them could properly clarify what really happened in the Tatnacht in the villa of transtibial amputee athlete. Judge Thokozile Masipa will therefore have to rely on circumstantial evidence and the credibility of the witnesses.

Nel focused his Pleading at the outset on Pistorius’ “blatant disregard for the law.” He cited the alleged lax handling of the athlete with firearms. He described Pistorius as irresponsible as someone who always push the blame on others.

Pistorius appealed in the negotiations again on blackouts. “But he has not even said he could not remember,” argued the chief prosecutor. “He has cobbled together his version.”

Later, the prosecutor asked the judge to disregard the arguments of the defense, as it was “devoid of any truth.”

Before the start of the pleadings, it was expected that Nel would try with rhetorical finesse to convince the court. He struggled at the outset a number of sporting metaphors. He spoke about it, Pistorius the “baton of Truth” dropped and so lost the “race”.

During the pleadings Pistorius sat alone on the dock. Also Steenkamps parents were present. For the first time Pistorius’ father was in the courtroom. He had suffered a stroke in January.

Pistorius’ defender Barry Roux will be on Friday with his plea to the series. The judgment is likely to make Judge Masipa only in a few weeks.
