President of Chile Bachelet will meet Obama in Washington

President of Chile Bachelet will meet Obama in WashingtonPresident of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, will meet  with Barack Obama, in Washington.

According to officials of the Palace of La Moneda, the President will leave on Saturday to the United States, where she will also hold meetings with the heads of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB).

The Chilean delegation will also be integrated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz; the Minister of Finance, Alberto Arenas; the Minister of Government, Alvaro Elizalde; the Minister of Economy, Luis Felipe Céspedes, and the Minister of Energy; Máximo Pacheco.

Washington is pushing to boost the transpacific free trade zone, but Bachelet wants the negotiations to take place at a slower pace “in order to make a comprehensive assessment of the benefits for Chile”.

It is a priority to prevent questionable aspects that might arise from this agreement, since if mismanaged, it would become an indirect renegotiation of our FTA with the United States, the President said recently.

This will be the first official visit of the Head of State of the trans-Andean country, who took office last March, to the United States.
