Srinagar, April 26: Going the separatist way, the pro India political party in Indian Kashmir – Peoples Democratic Party – Monday took out a protest rally to demand end to human rights violations, repeal of special powers enjoyed by Indian troops in Kashmir, which grants immunity to
them and reversal of death sentences to three persons including two Kashmirs announced by an Indian court recently.
Addressing the processionists at city centre, Mehbooba said the situation in Kashmir is fast deteriorating. She strongly condemned the recent killing of 70-year old beggar and a 35-year old villager by Indian army men and demanded stern punishment to the soldiers.
“Government of India should not allow the situation go out of control. They should release Kashmiri political prisoners, repeal special powers given to Indian soldiers in Kashmir, hand over control of our water and power resources to us, end human rights violations and send soldiers back to barracks,” she said.
Earlier, police resorted to mild baton charge to disperse the pro-India activists. However, they resisted the force and marched ahead amidst chanting of anti-government and pro-Kashmir slogans.
It is pertinent to mention here that the separatist organizations ‘fighting for freedom of Kashmir from India’ are also demanding release of Kashmiri prisoners, repeal of special powers enjoyed by Indian soldiers in Kashmir, end to HR violations, withdrawal of Indian soldiers and handing over control of natural resources to people of Kashmir.
