Fear an expansion of Protests: By all means tries China’s censors to stop the dissemination of news from Hong Kong.

The Chinese censors working flat out to prevent the dissemination of news from Hong Kong in China. The censors are thus currently more intensively employed as recently with the sensitive 25th anniversary of the bloody crackdown on pro-democracy movement on June 4, 1989, according to experts.

The satellite of the U.S. news channel CNN and the BBC are always disturbed when reports of Hong Kong come. In China’s social media comments will be deleted to Hong Kong en masse. And now also the website of the English-language Hong Kong newspaper “South China Morning Post” was blocked on Wednesday. Twitter, Facebook or YouTube are in any case always blocked in China, also the platform Instagram photo is no longer available.

The main evening news on Chinese state television said on Tuesday night for the first time the “illegal” protests. “All sectors of society” in Hong Kong rejected the demonstrations, it said. The use of tear gas was justified.

Although it was raining heavily, tens of thousands have stayed on the streets of Hong Kong at night on Wednesday again. The number of demonstrators is likely to continue to rise throughout the day: Wednesday is the Chinese National Day, and the Hong Kong therefore have two days off. The protesters have now the popular shopping district of Tsim Sha Tsui on the Kowloon peninsula occupied and built barricades in front of luxury shops.

Many activists were afraid that it would come at the solemn ceremony of the national holiday in which, among other things, the Chinese flag is hoisted to riots. The event was peaceful, however. The protesters accompanied the flag ceremony with a silent protest: They held hands crossed overhead. Student leader Joshua Wong and other activists turned the ceremony demonstratively back on, as the Chinese and Hong Kong flags were hoisted.

At the ceremony at the Golden Bauhinia Square in addition to several representatives of the Communist Party also took part in Hong Kong’s controversial prime minister Leung Chun Ying. He met with the guests of honor on the holiday with a glass of champagne at. “Hold General Election is better to have than no general elections,” Leung said at the ceremony. “To maintain prosperity and stability in Hong Kong in the future, is an important part of the ‘Chinese dream’.”

Following a decision by the People’s Congress in Beijing in 2017 will be held a direct election of the Government in Hong Kong – the candidates are but previously selected target. The students have the government issued an ultimatum to Thursday to meet their demands for the resignation of the government and the withdrawal of electoral reform. Otherwise, they threaten to expand their protests yet, call for a workers’ strike or to tighten their actions by occupying a government building.
