PSG stuns Chelsea in the Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain eliminated Chelsea 2-2 on away goals in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match at Stamford Bridge, London, on Wednesday night.

Fouling Chelsea midfielder Oscar, Paris Saint-Germain star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic was directly sent off by the referee in the 31st minute of the game in London.

In the 81st minute, Chelsea defender Gary Cahill broke the deadlock at Stamford Bridge to make it 1-0. Five minutes later, Paris Saint-Germain center-back David Luiz equalized with a header.

The game went to extra time as the first leg in Paris ended 1-1 as well.

In the 96th minute of extra time, Chelsea’s Belgian midfielder Eden Hazard successfully converted a penalty for his team to once again put them in the lead.

In the 114th minute, PSG center-back Thiago Silva scored a precious equalizer for his side.

The 2-2 draw in London meant that visitors Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the quarter final stage via a 3-3 aggregate score, with the number of away goals working to PSG’s advantage.

German giants Bayern Munich demolished Shakhtar Donetsk by smashing the Ukrainian club 7-0 in Munich. Bayern Munich thus advanced to the quarter final phase on a 7-0 aggregate. Thomas Muller scored twice with Jerome Boateng, Franck Ribery, Holger Badstuber, Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze also scoring for the German side (Anadolu Agency).
