Another banana racist abuse case in football
Kazim Richards switched from Galatasaray to Olympiakos on loan faced an act of racism in his first game for the Athens outfit, as a banana being hurled towards him from the Paok stands.
The Turkish international revealed the racial abuse today in his first interview, published on Olympiakos’ official website.
However the ever easy-going Kazim Richards has approached the incident far more relaxed than Roberto Carlos, who plays for Anzhi.
Such an incident happened last summer in Russia, with a banana being hurled towards Carlos from the Zenith stands. A clearly disgusted Roberto Carlos picked up the banana and then threw it away then.
The 38-year-old Brazilian legend then started shaking his head repeatedly before he made a gesture to the area of the stands where the banana came from and stormed off the pitch.
Colin Kazim Richards laughs the racist abuse incident off
Colin Kazim Richards, the former Southampton player, admitted his initial response was to laugh. ‘ People say this is a racial abuse but i’v laughed when i saw the banana. I have a sense of humor and i could have eaten the banana, if it was a fresh one. Too bad the banana they hurled was blackened and rotten. I don’t imagine even a monkey would eat it. ‘
