This was decided by the presiding judge of the South African province of Gauteng, Dunstan Mlambo. The public had given the importance of the case, a right to full information. But the Court decided a specific requirement for the TV broadcasts to ensure an undisturbed hearing, and to protect the rights of the accused.

So it should South African media are allowed to install three remote-controlled television cameras in the courtroom. Judge Mlambo also approved more fixed cameras for photos from the courtroom. Some witnesses, he conceded the right to refuse a TV broadcast of their testimony. Also for the transmission of conversations between Pistorius and his lawyers there are therefore limitations.

The defense of the 27-year-old had previously decided against live broadcasts from the courtroom pronounced: For the personal rights of the athlete would be violated. The trial is scheduled to begin next Monday.

Pistorius had on the night of 14 February 2013 his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his apartment shot through a closed bathroom door. He says he suspects a burglar in the house. The prosecution accuses him of targeted assassinations. He is on bail in freedom since the end of February 2013.
