The separatist groups while strongly condemning the killing of youth, third in 10 days, called for complete shutdown in Kashmir Monday. In response to the strike call, all shops business establishments, government offices, banks and educational institutions remained closed while vehicular traffic was off the roads. Only police, paramilitary and military vehicles beside some private vehicles were plying in the otherwise busy roads.

Meanwhile, authorities deployed hundreds of police and paramilitary soldiers in riot gears across Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian Kashmir to prevent people especially youth from taking to roads and staging anti-India demonstrations. The anti-India feeling in Kashmir is running high after the recent killing of youth by police and paramilitary soldiers.

The cops had placed barricades on roads at several places in Srinagar and did not allow any kind of movement. Even at some places in Nowhatta, Safa-Kadal and adjoining areas people were not allowed to venture out of their homes to purchase essential commodities.

The authorities had also cancelled school and college examinations in view of the unrest and security restrictions. Even the interviews for the post of police officers were deferred.

The youth defied security restrictions and took to roads at Maisuma, Sanat Nagar, Shalimar and some other places and staged anti-India demonstrations. Chanting pro-freedom, pro-Islamic and anti-India slogans, the protestors were demanding action against the police and paramilitary soldiers involved in killing of Kashmiri youth.

Meanwhile, the hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference (separatist alliance) has extended the strike call till tomorrow.

A spokesman of the conglomerate Ayaz Akbar said members of executive council met here and decided to extend the strike till tomorrow to protest against the killing of youth by Indian troopers and other Hr violations being committed by Indian soldiers.
