Six aircrafts damaged in India in accidents in a year

Five Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets and a transport aircraft were damaged in accidents in India in a year.

New Delhi, July 23/Nationalturk – At least five fighter jets and a transport aircraft were damaged in accidents in India in the year.

“During financial year 2013-14, five fighter aircrafts and one transport aircraft of Indian Air Force (IAF) were damaged in accidents,” Indian Defence Minister Arun Jaitley informed lawmakers in Rajya Sabha, upper house of Indian parliament.

He said six IAF personnel were killed in these accidents.

The Indian defence minister said no civilian casualties caused was caused by accidents on IAF fighters jets and transport aircraft.

“The loss to civilian property assessed so far is estimated at Rs. 0.256 million rupees (Indian currency),”he said.

‘IAF helicopter damaged during relief operation’

Jaitley further said apart from the six accidents, a helicopter of IAF was destroyed last year during flood relief operations in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand, in which five IAF personnel and fifteen National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) / Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel were killed.

“IAF aircraft accidents during such special operations in aid to civil agencies are not included in the statistics maintained for aircraft accidents,” he added.
