Besiktas is a club of scandals lately! The 110 year old club from Istanbul was banned from Uefa competitions last month and now it is claimed that Besiktas signed a contract with former England manager Goran Eriksson and have recruited Samet Aybaba instead of him. Eriksson claimed and got paid his one year salary of 1.2 M Euros !

Besiktas board under presidency of current chairman Fikret Orman has been searching for a new manager and last month Besiktas allegedly signed Eriksson, prepared the contract which eventually would Eriksson to earn 1.3M euros annually.

After stark criticism Besiktas board reconsidered the move, and signed with Turkish coach Samet Aybaba for 1M Dollars/year. Samet Aybaba, a former player at Besiktas and a journeyman manager was involved in a match-fixing allegations back in 2001. Besiktas board’s decision to put a name like Samet A. has sparked also criticism and  dissapointment across Besiktas community and fan base.

But the scandal with Eriksson is far worse than it has been put into headlines at Turkish sports media, since some executives allegedly paid Sven Goran Eriksson ‘s salary out of their pockets. Swen Goran Erikkson even had not traveled once to Istanbul and had got paid !

Besiktas Istanbul is in a dire financial crisis with 581 million Turkish liras of debt and has introduced an austerity regime, including offloading the wage bill through sending some star players, cutting the transfer budget even closing the mens- volleyball team.

The club was last month banned from European qualification due to unpaid debts during 8 years of Yıldırım Demiroren presidency. And this guy (Demiroren) is now the head of Turkish Football Federation. Besiktas fans endure a difficult period.
