Tax Protests Continue Day-and-Night in Ukraine

Protests against the Ukrainian government’s proposed tax law changes continue day and night in Kiev.

Hundreds of demonstrators set up tents on the Independence Square in the Ukrainian capital on the anniversary of the 2004 Orange Revolution.

Ukrainian government passed a new tax bill in the parliament on Nov. 18, in line with pressure from the IMF, from which it received large amount of loan.

The proposed reforms have sparked the largest wave of protest against President Viktor Yanukovich since he took office in February.

Protesters say the tax reforms would cripple small businesses by depriving them of tax breaks and they want the resignation of the prime minister and also ask the president to veto the bill.
