The hopes of recovering the trapped miners in a gold mine in China’s Tibet autonomous region is fading fast as rescue workers have not found any survivor, bodies found by rescuers yet.

Beijing, March 30/Nationalturk-: The rescuers have not found any survivor or bodies of the miners, who were buried in a gold mine in China’s Tibet autonomous region after a massive landslide struck on Friday.

According to media reports, a major landslide hit a mining area in Tibet yesterday, burying 83 workers.

“The landslide occurred at about 0600 hours local time in Maizhokunggar County of Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. The victims were workers from Tibet Huatailong Mining Development Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of the China National Gold Group Corporation,” it said.

The affected area of the landslide is 3 kilometers long, with about 2 million cubic meters of mud, rock and debris.

Over 1000 people involved in rescue operation

Over 1000 rescuers, including police, firefighters and medical personnel, have launched a rescue operation at the site, which is at an altitude of 4,600 meters. “About 200 large vehicles and equipment, 15 sniffer dogs and 15 life-detector machines are being used in the rescue operations,” local officials said.

They said five excavators, five pick-up trucks and an SUV were also buried in the debris. “The rescue operation will be very difficult due to the size of the affected area”.

The officials said till this (Saturday) afternoon, the rescuers have not yet found survivors or bodies. “The chances of finding the trapped workers alive is fading fast,” they said.
