Top Jaish militants killed in Kashmir firefight

A top militant of Pakistan based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad was killed in a fierce gunfight with Indian soldiers in Indian administered Kashmir.

Srinagar, Nov 24/National Turk- Police Saturday claimed to have achieved major breakthrough in Indian administered Kashmir by killing a top militant of Jaish-e-Mohammad militant group.

A police official said army soldiers and police men laid siege around village Chatlora, Rafiabad, some 40 kms North of Srinagar, summer capital of Indian administered, during the preceding night after receiving inputs about presence of militants.

“The soldiers sealed all the exit and entry routes of the village and zeroed-in on an the house, where they had information that militants were hiding. While the operation was going on, militants hiding in the house fired on the search party in the early hours today. The fire was returned by the army men, triggering an encounter,” he said.

He said the firefighting continued for couple of hours. “In the gunfight, a top Pakistani militant of Jaish-e-Mohammad  was killed and some arms and ammunition recovered,” he said.

The house, where from militant was firing on the soldiers, was damaged in the firefight.

He was active since 2002: Police

The police official identified the deceased commander as Yasir Tunda alias Shoaib alias Shazeb alias Shoket.  “He was involved in many attacks on troops and was active in North and Central Kashmir for last seven years. He was a most wanted militant and was carrying cash reward on his head”.

He said the militant commander had infiltrated into Kashmir from Pakistan administered Kashmir in 2002 and was active since then.

He termed Tunda’s killing as a major achievement of the troops and severe jolt to militant activities in Kashmir.

“The army men policemen did not suffer any casualties or injuries in the gunfight,” he added.
