Transfer News – Real Madrid’s new signing Mesut Özil who was widely speculated to play in the premiership has said during a press conference that Jose Mourinho was a big influence for him to join the Galacticos.

The 21-year-old World Cup wonder who spoke on his first press conference as a Real Madrid player spoke of his admiration of the Portuguese manager and how he influenced him to join the Spanish giants.

Mesut Özil who shot to world fame during Germany’s World Cup campaign in South Africa this summer said through a translator “I spoke to my advisers and looked at the options but I always wanted to join the best team in the world, and to play under the best coach in the world, Jose Mourinho,”

“I spoke to him and he convinced me. What we spoke about will remain between him and me but that’s why I am here.”

It is widely speculated that the young prominent German international of Turkish decent was paid a measly €18 million, to finalize the deal with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

The bargain price for the influential German midfielder was mainly due to Özil having only a year left on his contract and that at the end of the year he would have been able to leave his former club on a free transfer.

So Bremen opted to capitalize from their most expensive asset rather than letting him go free.

Mourinho also spoke of the cheap price paid for the playmaker, saying “We got him for a price which was far under his real market worth. We could not miss out on Ozil.”

Özil is said to have signed a six year deal with the Spanish giants worth €30 million which will be just under €100,000 a week excluding bonuses.

With sponsor deals also looming, it is expected for the young Özil to earn himself a huge sum.

Özil’s success though some may believe was due to the World Cup, is actually the birth of a star in the international stage, but the potential of the player was seen by many in Germany and people who watch the Bundesliga.

Mesut Özil not only played a huge part in Germany’s U21 triumph but also played a huge part for Werder Bremen throughout the years and was a star in the making who finally shined during the World Cup.

With the likes of Mourinho and the talent and determination of Özil, the young star is certainly in the right address and is certain to rise.
