Turkey: Alcohol advertising banned immediately / Breaking News

Turkey-Alchol-Ban-New-Laws

The conservative government of Prime Minister Erdogan has banned alcohol advertising across the country. Now, anyone who shows the logo of a brand of beer, must expect severe penalties.

Turkish Kneipiers must by now decorate their restaurants new – for promotion of wine or beer are now forbidden. Nowhere in the country may be advertised for more alcohol.

On Wednesday ended the transition period for a tougher Alcohol Act, which entered into force as early as last September. Shopkeepers, restaurants, pubs and supermarkets now have to remove all advertising for alcohol.
For the laws tightening the Islamic conservative AKP government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogandie led public health as the reason.

In addition, breweries and wineries may no longer advertise as sponsors. The logo of the trade marks may not be seen for example in football stadiums. In repeated violations of the ban face penalties of up to half a million Turkish lira – the equivalent of almost 175,000 euros.

Earlier, the government had tightened the laws to Erdogan. Since September 2013 shops are allowed to sell any alcohol from ten clock in the evening and six clock in the morning.

Kneipiers and store owners criticized the new law reform as contradictory. Because even though the advertising was banned, beer should indeed continue to be sold. And further, should one “to sell beer” with the slogan advertise, as long as the logo of the trade mark was not visible.
