Turkey-Internet-Limited-Censorship

The personal freedom of citizens to be massively limited: The Turkish parliament has passed a law requiring websites can be blocked even without a court order. Critics are appalled.

The Turkish AKP government tightened control of the Internet. The Parliament adopted at night to Thursday at a controversial bill that authorizes the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority to block websites without a court order. In addition, Internet providers should be obliged to store user data for two years, as the Turkish media reported.

The law in Turkey is highly controversial. The opposition accused the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to try to stop the planned closure criticism. From abroad, Erdogan has warned that the project would mean an encroachment on personal freedoms of citizens.

Even repeated popular Internet platforms have been blocked so far in Turkey, which had been used by opponents of Erdogan and the Turkish protest movement as communication. However, this was only possible with quasi-judicial decision.
