Turkey, Georgia Extends Power Deal

Turkey and Georgia on Monday extended an agreement regarding electricity exchange between the two countries for two years.

Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz and his Georgian counterpart, Alexander Khetaguri, inked the agreement in Ankara.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Yildiz said the protocol in question was protracted for another two years.

According to the agreement, Turkey would supply electricity to Georgia in winter and Georgia would meet needs of Turkey in other months.

The deal, which was signed in 2005, was set to expire this month.

Khetaguri, for his part, said Turkey and Georgia have been carrying out a good cooperation for five years and would continue to do so.

The visiting minister added that Turkey was a common strategic partner of Georgia, noting the two countries particularly have cooperation on energy.
