The heated talks over paid military service in Turkey came to an end, as Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan announced the new regulation and age limit for paid military service.

Ankara / NationalTurk – The recent discussions on paid military service and conscientious objection have come to an end with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s announcement, held at Turkish Grand National Assembly in Justice and Development Part Group Meeting (AKP).

Erdogan declared that the new age limit for paid military service will be 30. The government and military were reportedly at odds on the eligibility criteria for the beneficiaries of the bill to exempt conscripts from military service in return for payment. The AKP government was reported to be planning to include men aged over 25, while the General Staff was reportedly in favor of exempting only university graduates aged over 35 so that fewer conscripts could benefit. Both parties have settled on a new age limit, which will allow men aged over 30 to pay for their military service and be exempt from it.

Paid Military Service will be in effect : The price for military service : 15000 Euros

The former paid military service included a 21 days long basic military training, the new regulation repeals the 21 days of basic military training for those who pay the 30000 Turkish Lira ( 15000 Euro) to Turkish state. Turkish citizens who work abroad will be exempt from military service upon paying 10000 Euro and they also don’t have to go for a 21 days long basic military training.

Tayyip Erdogan stated and denied the rumors that conscientious objection was never part of their agenda. He thanked the military staff for their cooperation at the end of his speech. AKP will move the new regulation immediately and pass it through the Turkish Parliament.
