Turkey Tuesday sought increase in frequency of air flights with India to increase tourist traffic between the two countries.

New Delhi, June 18/Nationalturk – In order to increase the tourist traffic and foreign exchange earnings between the two countries, Turkey Tuesday sought increase in frequency of air flights with India.

A spokesman of Indian government said Turkey’s envoy in India Dr Burak Akcapar called on Indian Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi in Indian capital (New Delhi), here today.

“During the meeting Akcapar raised the issue of increasing air frequency between Turkey and India to increase tourist traffic between the two countries,” he said.

He said Turkey’s envoy said the existing flights between the two countries cannot cope up with the demand.

The Turkish ambassador, he said, also suggested that two countries can undertake joint promotion to increase two-way traffic between India and Turkey.

Turkey is important inbound tourist source market for India

The spokesman said Turkey is an important inbound tourist source market for India.

“During 2011, a total number of 17329 tourists from Turkey visited India,” he said adding Turkish Airlines is planning to spread its network in India with the possible code sharing with Indian air carrier Air India.

“With an aim to attract more tourists from Turkey to India, Indian Tourism Ministry is planning to carry out special promotions in the Turkish market this year,” Indian government spokesman said.
