Turkish origin German Mesut Ozil was transferred to the Arsenal fee of £42million.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has smashed Arsenal’s transfer record with a stunning £42m deal for Mesut Ozil.
Turkish origin Mesut Ozil, 24, in Germany for international duty, is undergoing a medical but the deal is in place after Arsenal’s interest in him on August 21.
German international Mesut Ozil has had some doubts about the move but Arsenal are confident that the deal will be completed before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday.
They are offering him a deal to become the club’s highest paid player, with wages of around £150,000-a-week being proposed. Theo Walcott is currently the highest paid player on £105,000-a-week. The club’s previous transfer record was the £15 million spent on Andrei Arshavin.
Manchester United were earlier said to have joined the race for the Germany international and the odds onMesut Ozil moving to Old Trafford plummeted on Monday morning amid speculation the Germany star would prefer a move to Manchester.
And Wenger’s spending will not stop there as they have agreed a season-long loan deal for Palermo’s Italian international keeper Emiliano Viviano, 27.
“I am thrilled to be joining a club of the stature of Arsenal and am looking forward to playing in the Premier League,” Mesut Ozil said.
