Turkish Poet Can Yücel's Vandalised Grave

Great turkish poet Can Yücel’s grave in Datca, Turkey was vandalised. The ceremony to commemorate the 12th anniversary of his death found criticism by pious AKP town representative the day before.

One of the greatest and most extraordinary turkish poets Can Yücel’s grave in Datca, a seaside town at Aegean Sea, was vandalised by unidentified persons, just after the AKP (the ruling Justice and Development Party) town representative have criticised severely the ceromony held to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the poets’s death in 1999.

The act of vandalism occured on late thursday evening, local police in Datca, a lovely seaside town on the Aegean coast, western Turkey, started an immediate investigation. In the cemetery of Datca, graves and tombs of Muslims, Christians and Jews lie next to eachother.

AKP Mentality represented in Datca

In a ceromony to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the poets death, people gathered, have poured wine down the grave of the turkish poet, who was known for his like of wine. The ceromony was criticized by the AKP town representative Ahmet Sedat Deniz. He stated that such ceremonies were against the belief system and traditions of turkish people, and they ( The AKP town organisation) wouldn’t permit such actions, which dishonor other deceaseds. ”We won’t let the values of this nation to be toyed with” he added.

Then this act of vandalism happened. Few people think the vandalism isn’t related to AKP town representative’s statements.

Interesting that Ahmet Sedat Deniz has nothing to say when the grave is vandalized…it seems to me that is much more of a dishonor than what happened at the commemoration!

  2. aHMAD - 23 Ağustos 2011

This is a ploy from the perverts to blame the AKP.

I think it would be far more pctrudoive for the Turks to do it themselves if they desire to do so.Also, to be fair I think President Obama's religion is basically self-worship.Regards,Rob
