Two earthquakes hits Papua New Guinea on Sunday

Two massive earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.1 have trembled Papua New Guinea on Sunday.

The two earthquakes occurred within 30 minutes of each other and brought fear to the residents of Papua New Guinea.

Authorities from Indonesia, which borders Papua New Guinea have said that the first earthquake hit around 1304GMT, 503 kilometers north-east of Portmoresby with 77 kilometers bellow ground.

The second earthquake occurred at 1335 GMT, measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale, in the same area according to the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency .

Fears of a Tsunami was raised as Indonesian seismologists issued a brief warning but was later lifted.

Remarkably no one was reported injured or killed by both earthquakes.

The earthquake hit within “The Ring of Fire” where earthquakes and large volcanic eruptions occur regularly.
