PSG Defender Uruguay national team captain Diego Lugano transferred West Bromwich Albion.

The 32-year-old spent lasts season on-loan at Malaga where he teamed up with the now Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Lugano made his intentions clear earlier this month by confirming he wanted to leave his parent club on a permanent basis.

“What else can I say? There is nothing to say yet. I will return to PSG and do the pre-season with the intention of leaving,” he told Urugol.

“I haven’t decided where yet. I will return to France, but I will be trying to leave.

“I say try because I am a PSG player and they won’t let me leave if they think I can be of use there. The idea is that they will give me the freedom to find another team.”

West Bromwich  manager Steve Clarke is looking to add to his squad after only sealing the arrival of Goran Popov this summer.

The former Chelsea assistant has identified the 85 capped international and is hoping to secure a deal in the region of £1m.

However the club have fallen behind in the race to sign Lille striker Salomon Kalou, who is currently in talks with West Ham over a move back to the Premier League.

Clarke wanted to bring the 27-year-old to the club, after losing the services of on-loan Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku.

The 49-year-old is keen to add at least two more strikers to his squad with the future of Peter Odemwingie still uncertain.
