US: New Regulations on Sunscreeners / Health News

New regulations released by U.S. health authorities recommend removing from the label of sunscreen bottles the assertion that they are waterproof or sweatproof.Health News

Instead, it should be specified how many minutes this cream is active under water, so that the consumer has real information, said the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The regulation will be implemented in the USA from next year.

According to the FDA, the new regulations are supported by the most advanced science available and it is expected to reduce confusion about sunscreens.

Under the new guideline only those sunscreens that offer sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or more may affirm they are of broad spectrum.

Currently, the FDA considers whether to allow the sale of products with an SPF of 70, 80 or 100 because the tests have not proved that they protect more than an SPF of 50.
