The Visa on Arrival (VoA) for foreign tourists of 11 countries has witnessed a growth of 37 per cent in May 2013.

New Delhi, June 13/Nationalturk – The Visa on Arrival (VoA) for foreign tourists of 11 countries has witnessed a growth of 37 per cent in May 2013 indicating that continued offences against women in India is not hampering tourist flow to the country.

“Visa on Arrival (VOA) scheme continues to be popular among foreign tourists. The nationals of 11 countries intending to visit India are granted VoA in the country,” an Indian official spokesman said.

The tourists of Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Singapore, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar are granted visa on arrival in India.

“To VoA scheme registered a growth of 37.2% during May 2013 as compared to May 2012. A total of 1,114 VoAs were issued in May 2013 as compared to 812 during May 2012,” the spokesman said.

He said 372 visitors from Japan, 195 from New Zealand, 181 from Philippines,  139 from Singapore, 136 from Indonesia, 55 from Finland, 14 from Vietnam, 9 from Cambodia, 8 from Luxembourg and four from Laos were granted visa on arrival in India.

India launched VoA scheme in January 2010

To attract more foreign tourists to country, Indian government launched “Visa on Arrival” (VoA) scheme in January 2010 for citizens of five countries Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore, visiting India for tourism purposes. The scheme was later extended to citizens of six more countries — Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Laos and Myanmar in January 2011.

The Indian government spokesman said during the period January to May 2013, highest number of VoAs were issued at Delhi airport (4,808), followed by Mumbai airport (1,743), Chennai airport (1,157) and Kolkata airport (558).
