Srinagar, July 6: At least 12 photojournalists representing international news agencies and newspapers were injured when police and paramilitary soldiers beat them during clashes in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian Kashmir.
The photo-journalists were discharging their professional duty during clashes between angry youth and soldiers at Batamaloo, some 3 kms North of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian Kashmir.
Two persons including a lady had died in police and paramilitary soldiers in the area while a teenager died after slipping into a drain while being chased by the police and paramilitary soldiers last evening.
The soldiers beat the photojournalists and prevented them from covering their professional duties. At least 12 photo-journalists sustained injuries in the police and paramilitary soldiers beating. Among the injured include Farooq Javed of EPA, Tauseef Mustafa of AFP. Some other injured were associated with local newspapers and Indian newspapers.
The Kashmir Press Photographers Association has strongly condemned the police and paramilitary soldiers action and demanded action against the erring cops.
