3 U20’s in Costa Rica squad for the play offs
Costa Rica have announced their 32 man squad which will play against Uruguay at the World Cup playoffs for a chance to go to the Finals.
The team will include 3 under 20 players; Cristian Gamboa, Bryan Oviedo and Jose Mena who are all defenders and all played in key roles in the World Youth Cup held in Egypt this month which Costa Rica came fourth at.
“The great effort these young players made in the recent World Youth Cup must be recognised and they will be of great help in our development plan,” explained Rene Simoes the Brazilian coach of Costa Rica who promoted the players to senior level.
The Central American nation, looking to play in their fourth World Cup, reached the playoff by finishing fourth in the CONCACAF region qualifiers.
Uruguay lost to Argentina to miss direct qualification to the World Cup finals at South Africa. Uruguay, were world champions in 1930 and 1950 and are hoping to reach their first finals since 2002.
