About 3 Million Unemployed in France

Unemployment in France increased in April for the twelfth consecutive month and now affects 2.8 million people, according to data provided by the Ministry of Labour.

According to that office last month France lost 4,300 jobs, which represents an increase of 0.1 percent from March.

If those who have a part-time work are included, the total number amounts to 4.3 million in the metropolitan area, comprising the mainland and the island of Corsica.

The new president François Hollande, who took office on May 15, promised new jobs as one of his priorities, especially in the education sector.

According to surveys published here, 58 percent of French believe that unemployment should be addressed by government as a priority, before purchasing power and competitiveness of enterprises.
