The pandemic has kept planes grounded, employees out of work and airlines bankrupt in recent years. At the same time, however, many new airlines saw their chance to close the gaps with their connections. In 2020 and 2021, several airlines started in Germany, and in March 2023 a new airline should also start in Austria.

Liliair

Austria gets a new airline. From March 2023, the airline Liliair will connect Klagenfurt, capital of the southern Austrian state of Carinthia, with the German cities of Frankfurt, Munich and Hamburg. Two CRJ900 aircraft from the Canadian manufacturer Bombardier will take off. The jets will each have space for 90 people. Tickets can be reserved on the Liliair website from January. From March 2023, bookings should also be possible by telephone and in future at the home airport of Klagenfurt, as the Austrian Lilihill Group, founder of the airline and majority owner of Klagenfurt Airport, announced on Tuesday (March 20).

Flyv

The airline Flyv is currently still in its infancy, but wants to really take off from 2023. Based in Unterhaching near Munich, the start-up initially plans to fly to five to ten airports in Germany and neighboring countries. The offer is expected to continue to grow until 2026.

The special thing about this airline is that the managing directors want to completely do without a fixed timetable. Instead, the flight times should be flexibly recalculated for each day using algorithms. At the same time, however, this means that travelers are only informed of specific time slots when booking and the exact times only a few days before the flight.

Unlike so-called virtual airlines, Flyv would like to take off with its own machines. These should have capacity for around 20 passengers, explained co-managing director Anton Lutz in an interview with Aerotelegraph.

Luebeck Air

The German virtual airline Lübeck Air started operations two years ago. The first flight went from Lübeck to Munich on August 17, 2020. In addition to Munich, the airline now also flies to Stuttgart, Munich and Salzburg from Lübeck.

In addition, Lübeck Air currently also offers flight connections to/from Bergen in Norway and to/from Sälen in Sweden. All aircraft of the private aviation company based at Lübeck-Blankensee Airport are operated by the Danish airline Air Alsie.

Norse Atlantic Airways

The young low-cost airline Norse Atlantic Airways is expanding its range: From the capital’s airport BER there are now three direct flights a week to Florida. Until the end of the winter flight schedule in March, the airport recently announced that it would be flying to Fort Lauderdale and back on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The flight time is approximately ten and a half hours. The Norwegians are already heading for New York and Los Angeles from Berlin. The airline was founded in 2021. She is trying to establish the low-cost flight concept on long-haul routes.
