Besiktas and Fenerbahce draw 2-2 in eventful cup derby

Besiktas and Fenerbahce drew 2-2 Thursday evening in Istanbul’s Vodafone Park in Ziraat Turkish Cup’s first leg match.

The fans saw three red cards shown in the eventful derby, as two teams’ players were aggressive to each other throughout the match.

Besiktas found the first goal in the 14th minute with Spanish striker Alvaro Negredo, however Fenerbahce responded with its own Spanish striker, Roberto Soldado.

Fenerbahce midfielder Alper Potuk was shown his second yellow card in the 44th minute, leaving his team with ten men on the field. Yellow Canaries’ defender Senol Ozbayrakli gave his the lead just before the first half with 2-1.

The second half saw Ricardo Quaresma shown a red card in the 52nd minute after a brawl with two team’s players, stopping the match for about ten minutes.

Fenerbahce goalkeeper Volkan Demirel was also shown a red card in the 76th minute, Fenerbahce was left with only nine players on the pitch.

Besiktas used Fenerbahce, having only nine men to its advantage and found a goal from Anderson Talisca in the 82nd minute.

The rest of the minutes were goalless and Fenerbahce gained advantage going into the second leg of the semi-final tie.
